Good evening 14U families,
The kids are progressing well. In just the first three practices, I have seen tremendous growth. On the weekends when we are not practicing, all I can say is to encourage more stick-time while at home. Have them get together with a teammate, with a neighbor in different age bracket, with a friend who plays baseball and they can throw and catch with each other stick to mitt, or just play wall-ball.

Some info regarding the COVID policy for GMLA:
Based on CT DPH guidance, we are going to have to wear masks while we practice and play. I understand this is going to be a huge adjustment. Also, there will be no sharing of equipment or water bottles. We will not have a cooler to refill water bottles, so plan accordingly, especially as we get deeper in to the season and it gets hotter. There will not be snacks after games either. Also, we take attendance daily for contact tracing.
Each player was issued a practice jersey. Please have them wear them at all practices. These must be returned at the end of the season. Also, those players who received a long stick from the league must return those at the end of the season.
I am listed as the Head Coach, but that is because one person has to be named Head Coach to be the main point of contact and to deal with the Ref’s during a game. I am extremely fortunate to be coaching with four other very enthusiastic and talented coaches. Coaches Greg Sluggett, Ryan Duffy, Joel Watson, Mike Hand and I are all volunteering our time. Three of us are motivated by the fact that we enjoy it and have a child on the team. In the cases of Ryan and Mike, not only do they not have a child on the team, they don’t even have children; they just have a love for lacrosse. They both serve our country, in the Navy and Coast Guard, respectively and wanted to give back even more than that. So, when you see our coaches, please give a big thank you to them all!
The game schedule is being finalized and should be posted soon. Please use the GMLA website to RSVP (yes or no) your attendance for practices and games. This is crucial for strategy planning for game day.
Reminder that practice tomorrow and on all Thursdays will be at PPP.
All the best,
